Position Overview
We are seeking enthusiastic, reliable, and hardworking individuals to join our Deck Crew aboard the M/V Bennie Alice. This is a unique opportunity to work along Maine’s beautiful coastline while playing a hands-on role in delivering the Cabbage Island Clambakes experience.
No prior maritime experience is required—comprehensive training is provided. We value a positive attitude, strong teamwork, and a genuine interest in providing excellent guest experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with transporting freight and supplies to and from Cabbage Island.
Greet and assist passengers in a friendly, professional manner, creating a welcoming first impression.
Support passenger safety and comfort during transit.
Assist with table service upon arrival on Cabbage Island.
Follow instructions from the First Mate and Captain to support safe and efficient vessel operations.
Work collaboratively with fellow crew members to ensure smooth operations and high levels of guest satisfaction.

Eligibility Requirements
Must be at least 17 years of age.
Must be a U.S. citizen, in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations.
Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug screenings as required by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Position Summary
The First Mate supports the Captain in the safe, efficient, and professional operation of the vessel. This role carries supervisory responsibility over crew members, ensures all pre-departure, underway, and closure procedures are completed, and assumes command in the event of Captain incapacity. The First Mate is a key safety, leadership, and coordination role onboard.
Core Responsibilities
Leadership & Command
Understand and carry out First Mate emergency responsibilities as outlined in the Station Bill.
Be prepared to assume command of the vessel in the event of Captain incapacity.
Delegate operational tasks to crew members and follow up to ensure timely and correct completion.
Maintain clear communication with the Captain and crew at all times.
Pre-Departure Supervision
Oversee loading of freight; reconcile invoices and ensure they are placed in the wheelhouse.
Initiate generator and shore power procedures at least 15 minutes prior to boarding.
Remove overnight dock lines.
Supervise completion of the daily task checklist, including cleaning and engine room checks.
Confirm all crew members have functioning radios.
Assign departure roles (bow, spring, stern lines).
Assign bar, counter, and ramp-top roles.
Verify sufficient bar bank prior to boarding.
Embarkation & Disembarkation
Monitor dock and ramp volume to prevent overloading.
Monitor top deck capacity to ensure passenger safety.
Maintain orderly and safe passenger flow during boarding and disembarking.
Underway Duties
Proactively observe passengers for special needs, safety concerns, or unsafe behavior.
Monitor radio communications continuously and respond promptly to Captain requests.
Conduct regular checks of all passenger compartments.
Perform periodic vessel rounds approximately every 10 minutes.
Compile a list of bar and service inventory needed from the island (ice, liquor, beverages, etc.).
Pre-Return Supervision
Ensure one crew member is onboard at least 15 minutes prior to return boarding.
Confirm all freight has been fully offloaded.
Ensure required bar inventory has been obtained.
Supervise cleaning of benches, floors, and bar areas.
End-of-Day / Closure Tasks
Remove kegs as required.
Connect shore power.
Shut down the engine room according to procedures.
Close and secure all windows and doors.
Lock up bar bank and storage closet.
Secure the vessel and install overnight dock lines.
Qualifications & Expectations
Strong leadership and delegation skills.
Ability to remain calm and decisive in emergency situations.
Excellent situational awareness and attention to detail.
Clear communication skills with crew, Captain, and passengers.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
Must meet all licensing and training requirements applicable to the role.

We are currently hiring JOATs (Jacks of All Trades) to join our team. As a JOAT you will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of each clambake on picturesque Cabbage Island.
Responsibilities
As a JOAT, you will be involved in a variety of tasks that contribute to the smooth execution of our clambakes. Key responsibilities include:
Hauling Lobsters and Clams: Assist in counting and moving fresh lobsters and clams to ensure the availability of high-quality seafood for our guests.
Groundskeeping: Maintain the pristine appearance of the island by mowing lawns and keeping outdoor spaces visually appealing.
Hauling Freight: Support the logistics of our operation by helping transport necessary equipment and supplies.
Washing Trays: Ensure that serving trays are clean and ready for use during clambakes.
Pulling Seaweed: Contribute to the traditional clambake process by harvesting seaweed for the cooking process.
Washing Vegetables: Assist in preparing fresh vegetables for our culinary offerings.
Assist Bake Master: Collaborate with the Bake Master in various tasks to facilitate the clambake process.
